Does anyone have any framing tips or tips in general for shooting busy environments or for shooting places where you can't necessarily stand where you'd like?

I am trying to get into photography and do a lot of hiking so landscape seems a good place to start

From today, about an hour ago, no correction etc. because I'm sat in the back of a van typing this on my piece of shit colour fucked laptop, just jpg straight from the camera sized down for posting, will post a couple more

Ban yourself from using wide-angles. Only use a 50mm until you can competently frame a subject. Read about gestalt and try to read a book on compositions in paintings

am I the only person on this planet that hates "processed" aka completely unrealistic landscapes? When I watch tutorials like this I want to throw up but it seems everybody loves those fantasy photos. can people actually not tell that these conditions don't actually exist in the real world? what's even the point of taking pictures of the real world then?

I've been in southern Utah shooting landscapes for a couple weeks and almost everything I have shot has been north of 50mm with very few exceptions

Wide angles for long exposure landscape bullshit is a huge meme started by a minority of travel photographers who were also too deep into the HDR and saturation hole

They're actually way better for portraiture, action, and daily snapshitting.

What I'm interested in is the cliffs and the way they drop off into the ocean, I did walk all the way over this peninsula, I can happily hike for hours, when I say can't stand where I'd like to I mean in terms of safety, i.e. where I took this photo >>4219083 I wanted to try and get a clear line down the trench in the bottom middle of the frame but I physically not move any further forward to capture it and it doesn't really work, it looks like a shallow slope rather than the funnel it is in reality

Are you rotating the camera around the lenses true center (nodal point) and doing multiple rows?

Then no, you’re not there yet. The good news is chinese tripod gear for this works fine and you can just eyeball the nodal point if you have two sticks and a flat patch of grass.

I’ve been gravitating towards 3:1 landscape crops lately. I shoot large format film for most of my landscapes and so I’m able to get decent resolution even with some wild cropping, this scan is about 76MP and resolves mostly down to the grain, I’m not super happy about the colors and dynamic range even after editing (this was provia) but I’m a sucker for very wide and flat shots like this. I’ve been doing most of my landscapes in 4x5 with a 210/5.6 lens which is like a 58mm equivalent iirc. I do wide shots on 135/digital/8x10 but I’m coming to prefer the flat look of long lenses. Plus then I can make 3:1 banners on Instagram which while I don’t have many followers, normies seem to eat up

Couldn't really have on that occasion, I didn't have a tripod with me. Not sure how a handheld stack would work for a landscape but maybe it could be worth a shot if I find myself in that situation again. It was really just a stupid oversight though.

Have you tried shooting what you have? Even if it looks dull you can learn from it. Take hundreds of photos of the same scene. Try different times of day, different frames, different focal lengths, observe what works, what doesn't. Maybe you'll find that all is not so dull as it seem, or maybe it is, but at least you'll learn techniques that will help you when you are in a situation that offers better landscapes.

No, I've tried to remove it, but its still there, that's the cheap RF100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM glass. I only have one 24-70 pro lens for it.

Scientists need to immediately conduct an experiment on people’s eyes and compare how 29,000 different people see saturation.

Like colour blind exists, I’m pretty sure saturation blindness also exists or people see it at different levels.

I just don’t understand how ppl in this thread or Ken Rockwell’s put there saturation so high.

To my eyes it looks like if you made a plate of food then poured 1 litre of tomato sauce over it. Like it’s so far past normal to be completely beyond comprehension. But then maybe if your eyes see saturation a bit less it just looks normal and then you prob wonder why most stuff looks so faded lol.

Its the screens. Not the eyes. Consumer screens are desaturated, inaccurate, and low density. So they saturate, brighten, and sharpen their photos.

The opposite problem is people with nice screens underexposing and desaturating everything, not applying any sharpening, etc.

Took this on portra 160 in the Virgin Islands. Portra 160 isnt good for landscapes besides sunsets I learned but thanks fully I have ektachrome to get developed as well as medium format

Taking landscape photos at a 2.8 aperture isn't really orthodox, especially when you have plenty of daylight. People usually want the most of their scenery in focus and with the best rendering possible.
Also, most lenses are softer at that kind of apertures. They better perform at f4, f5.6 or f8 depending on the brand and focal.
