If there's some way to get raws out of a mid-tier phone. If you process the raws correctly I bet you can get a "real camera" look pretty easily yet still being pretty average in IQ.

A mid or cheap camera will look about the same as a modern camera.
You need to go film or extremely shit digital to really get a noticeable difference.

Disposable film cameras are the best for this IMO.
They have a cheap $5 plastic lens and fuck up exposure constantly.
Go look up disposable camera groups on Flickr for an example.

Cameras don't matter. Get any camera. Everything interesting happens behind and in front of the camera, the camera is just a medium. Aesthetic is independent of equipment.

With that said, maybe use something slightly more performant / adaptable than a cell phone.
