Any Lubitel fags here? How is an entry level TLR?
t.wanting to get into mid format film photography e.g. shooting 120 film but tight budget. Been shooting 35mm film for a few years wanting to diversify a bit.

My grandpa had one of the early models. I still have it somewhere but the bakelite shell is cracked.
He used it a lot during his mandatory military service in Slovakia (we are Czech) during the late 1940s/early 1950s. Even tho he could've been shot if the officers ever discovered he had a camera with him.
He documented his and his comrades daily life and the crimes against the local people they were forced to commit.
His assignment was the "relocation" of people from the border regions. Communists forced the people out of their houses essentially overnight. Barring them from taking almost any belongings. Their houses were then either burned or shelled or otherwise destroyed. If it was at all possible they tried to help the people. Sometimes smuggling stuff out of the no-go zones during the night. One time they crashed their truck during one of these smuggling operations and had to repair it almost over night before anyone found out.
Funny thing is my grandpa then went to voluntarily work in an uranium mine and was awarded many "hero of the state" plaques and was a big supporter of the regime until his death (although he never joined the KSČ). Of well don't bite the hand that feeds you I guess (for the work in the uranium mines he had a a first radio, tv, motorcycle and car in the village).

I think he was stationed in Košice beginning in 1949 or 1950 if I remember correctly. I would've to ask grandma for an exact date. But since the mandatory military service was kinda long it's very possible lmao

As long as you want a TLR it's fine I guess, it's the minimum, although I never liked using too much.
My go to medium format slavshit camera is AMI2, which has even less options or recently Agfa Clack which is even more basic than AMI2 but takes 6x9 pictures.

If you're shooting medium format, the camera is the least expensive part of the process, so why buy some piece of shit? Pony up and get a nice one, like a Fuji, Mamiya, Contax, Hasselblad, Rollei, etc. If you're cheaping out, go all the way and tape up a Holga.
