Why would you leave it on?
Auto iso does not know what you want your exposure to be, it does not know what part of the photo you are exposing for.
If you have a stupid ancient DSLR, then yeh leave it on, but no one with an evf has any need for it at all, the alternative is to have a dial for exposure compensation, but that can fuck with the artistic intent from your decided ss and aperture.

though I am an old-school Nikon Boomer and none of my cameras have Auto ISO except for I think my D800 if it does I've never used it.

idk if its just my camera (rebel t6) but whenever i have auto iso on it over exposes the shit out of my pictures. best way ive found is to just use aperature priority and then adjust iso as needed

The pixel peepers may complain but at 500px/IG size if you have more than 20mp to start with down sampling basically kills the noise

Iso is important, even on invariant sensors, mainly for when you want\have to include white in your image, it looks a lot more natural with the white areas actually blown out, and not fucking with the top couple of EV in post.

And why use ael or exp comp, or any other gimmick shit, when the iso dial does that all for you with a real time preview anyway?

Of course it does, that's what exposure compensation is for.
Hundreds of mystery film units = shit.
Exposure compensation measured in EV, where 0 is 18% gray = simple and elegant.
Also. Flash exposure compensation. Oh yes.

SS and aperture are more important considerations, exposure comp is just going to adjust the iso from whatever auto decided, you have an evf, if you're using that for exposure comp adjustment, just use it for iso instead.

Flash is again meaningless usage for exp comp, set your background level via the evf, take your auto reading for flash and adjust its power manually.

Exp comp is just an unnecessary step for people that can't understand the exposure triangle.

Because for my style of shooting, I'm pretty much always in aperture priority, where I manually adjust the aperture according to the DoF I want for the shot, and then only adjust the ISO up manually if the shutter speed is getting to be too slow. I know in recent times, most cameras auto-ISO can be set to have a minimum shutter speed it first hits before pumping the ISO, but I change subject types often enough that the slowest viable shutter shifts often, and in which case I'm still then manually adjusting ISO between different auto-ISO presets to accommodate if I want to always have the least noise. So I don't bother, having the SS on auto and just manipulating the ISO around that is convenient enough.

Anytime you shoot raw. With most camera sensors being ISOless, its better to stick to whatever read noise drops off, or dual gain kicks in (800-3200), then boosting it up in post. Each increased stop in ISO loses a stop of highlight headroom

No. If you want white highlights in your shot, it's best they are blown in the raw, gives a much more natural look to the highlights. If you have a subject, expose for the subject, you don't want to be adjusting the brightness at all on say your subjects face in post.

People being scared of white and ignoring the content of the photo in preference of "safe" photography, is what makes so much digital photography bland and flat and lifeless.

It's faster. Instead of me having to turn a dial to expose any time light changes, automatic exposure can do it quicker. For extremely rare cases when it's desirable to hold incorrect exposure for next shot, well there's a button for that.
