Sony A7rii or Canon 5DS R?
Canon would cost a little more but I already have EF lenses. Want something high res and dependable. What do you guys reckon?

get mc11 and adapt. 90% same AF capabilities (it's good for photography, for video better get metabones 5)

a7rII is much worse than a7rIII but also much cheaper
if you're out of money a7rII will serve also great

personally I'd never get a7rII though. weak battery, weaker than III AF, also lowlight at III is much much better

Don't think i'd go fuji. I have an olympus and I like that for a crop sensor more than fujis. Its nice to have a little camera as well as a full frame i think, so I usually stick with a m43 and a FF and skip the APSC

A7rII is going to have worse AF than a Canon DSLR regardless of adapter. It wasn't until the third generation that Sony AF was worth a shit.

The ultimate redpill is FF for normal shooting, and if you'd buy a good extreme telephoto zoom for FF for taking photos of birds or something, you can buy a m43 body and a zoom for the same or less and still have a lighter bag (and no worries missing normal shots because you dont have to change lenses)

you've clearly never even looked into the viewfinder of a high end Canon DSLR in the last 10 years, the 5DSR has possibly the best AF system you can find in a DSLR, same as the 5d3, 5d4, 7d2 and the string of 1d that came out after the 5d3

It's capital G Garbage compared to a good mirrorless. DSLR autofocus has never been good. Please, give me a leica M and a good MILC and I'll be happy but I'd rather use a point and shoot than that ridiculous janky, bronica sized shit (as in a literal shit, pile of poo) that is a DSLR.

Unironically this. Mark III minimum. Stay away from the Mark II bodies. They were very unpolished and you would also need a dozen FW50 batteries with them.

The fuck are you smoking? The AF module on that body is derived from the 1DX and is excellent in all respects. It works great for sports/wildlife/fast action. It even has rudimentary subject tracking (iTR) via the metering sensor which is a 150kp imaging sensor. iTR is not as sticky as modern mirrorless subject tracking in really challenging conditions, but it absolutely works. Outside of the iTR mode if you can keep an AF point on the subject, it will hold focus, period, so long as your lens AF motor can keep up.

If you can't get good AF tracking from a 5Ds then the problem is you. The 5Ds AF module will easily out track the AF on the A7R II. Like I said, it wasn't until the third generation that A7 bodies had decent AF.
