>>4223405Perhaps you just completely misunderstand my logic. OP said their GF wants a camera because of a trip. This has strong connotations that lead me down a certain path:
>probably not very experienced with photography>not worth committing to any system over a trip>dedicated cameras make you look like a tourist>you need a larger camera to get much more quality than a decent phone>a larger camera is more weight and shit to worry about>any purchase means less money available on said tripPeople get excited for trips and tend to over-spend before they even leave, on everything from luggage to clothes. Buying a new camera that will likely be on par with a phone (especially just for tourist snaps) is just one more piece of buyer's remorse once the excitement of the trip is over and you get home tired with less money. The trip camera collecting dust in a drawer is a meme we've all seen countless times IRL.
It would be different if you were going on a photography-oriented expedition somewhere for an extended amount of time, but you wouldn't be asking those kinds of questions if that were the case. Use phone, save money is my honest opinion and I even said why in my original post. Disagree if you want, but don't try to misrepresent my words. I took OP's situation into account more than anything. If his GF really wants a camera though, they should get one. I'd just look for something light, compact, and weather resistant with good battery life. Strangely, this sounds an awful lot like the average phone.
