Look it up, really good website can see the sun angle for any location and time.
You need to plan an area you can shoot between 1 hour before to after sunrise or sunset with your camera pointing towards the sun.
Sun setting or rising into an area of water or forest etc is good

Also instead of metering on the bird meter in the mid tone of bg, ie midtones of clouds in a sunset, you will end up with a nicely exposed sunset or dusk with your bird as a silhouette

This is not how a silhouette works lol.
A silhouette is when you expose your photo perfectly for something bright in the background.
Your subject will be underexposed but your exposure is correct because you exposed for the background, if that makes sense. The wrong exposure is actually the correct exposure.
