Question for any photographers or videographers here who have done weddings or any kind of events: Would it be weird as a wedding guest to DM you and ask for certain footage of an event?

For context: my husband was best man at a wedding recently. He wrote a speech and was nervous how it would go. I asked him if he wanted me to record him when he did his speech and he said it might be kinda weird and that I don’t have to.

When he went up to do his speech, I started recording on my phone, but I was at a weird angle where I was sitting and didn’t want to stand up in case I would be in the direction of a videographer’s camera, so I stopped recording. Husband’s speech was great, everyone applauded and complimented him. Husband sat back down and asked me how he did and I said he did great. He then asked if I recorded it. I said I didn’t because he said I didn’t have to and I felt tacky. He said “it’s ok, maybe someone else recorded it”.

So I’m wondering of I could try DMing the photographer for the wedding and asking if they could send me footage of the best man speech. Is that ok to do? Or would I need to ask the bride and groom since they’re the clients who paid for the footage? I feel weird asking the bride and/or groom since I don’t know them that well.

Thoughts? Is a photographer/videographer allowed to send footage to someone who is not a paying client?
