>>4224079Got myself a Tamron 17-70 2.8 and it’s a wonderful lens for reportage jobs. Not incredibly sharp wide open, busy looking b*keh, but that focal length range is a perfect fit.
After shooting a big event I can say that I had never longed for a longer FL, nor had I wanted to change to something wider during it.
OIS is very good too, however you must update the lens’ firmware to get it to work in AF-C mode with IS set to “when shooting” (another quirk is that it’s tied to whatever button enables your AF, not to the half-pressed shutter button necessarily. It can be annoying in certain situations if you use back button AF, then it’s worth switching to “continuous” mode of IS.) You can update it via camera, like a normal Fuji lens, no need for a Tamron dongle. Handheld video with IBIS-less bodies looks good.
AF is adequately responsive for fast moving targets.
So, it may not produce quite as good looking images as the XF 16-55 2.8, but if you shoot events or even sports, it’s a very strong contender and in my opinion, a better choice.
