>>4243520It's literally the same chip and software, so yeah it's on par. Where it differs is in viewfinder blackout since it's not a stacked sensor, you don't get that dual-feed. But still, 15fps RAW and 30fps JPEG in a body that's going for $2k... pretty nuts.
>>4243178I don't know the whys behind the engineering in the wafers that go into these sensors, but as I understand it, you can go from 24 to 45 to 61MP, and you can potentially have a pixel-binned ~33MP. Maybe Sony isn't giving up those 61MP sensors to 3rd parties yet? I don't know.
In any case, the Z lenses are distressingly large, it's true, but they're lighter than you'd think, given the size. The 24-70 and 70-200 are both lighter than their F mount counterparts. And the 24-70 f/4 is really light. Seems like they've finally got a couple of nice smaller primes too, the 28 and 40 are both super solid. The 24-50 is also fucking tiny if you want the smallest possible lens with some zoom for hiking or what have you.
Honestly if you have a D810 and want a camera with better AF and can live with lower resolution, the Z6s and Zf both seem like great options. If you want everything, the Z8 is there. And if you want everything and then some, the Z9.
But honestly, your D810 is goated with the sauce and will continue to function just fine. So until you really need to, there's no need to upgrade. I shoot a lot professionally so it made sense to complete the transition since I was using a Z6 as a backup camera to a D850 and was liking the results even more than the D850.
