Use encryption, compression, deduplication if needed, always use fresh tapes and remember to change tapes regulary (2-3 years useage max for the daily set) and keep a remote backup, too. Maybe at a bank locker.
You want to have minimum one tape for each set (daily, weekly,monthly,yearly).
Do Daily and weekly incremental and monthly and yearly full backups. Your mileage may vary but that was the sweet spot for most of the businesses for me.
If you are doing additional cloud backup - always use watermarks to protect your copyright. If you are big enough consider software that protcets your digital assets (IPS). Especially in these times with companies using AI from customer data.
And most of all: Do restore tests once a year!
Never rely on a single backup solution, use raid for work and do long term cold as described above
