>>4253524Ahhh...the 7D. My main camera for literally 8 years.
+ Good AF.
+ Fast.
+ Rugged.
+ Very good IQ for the time it was released, still competent today. Definitely a 16x24" capable camera.
+ Great ergonomics.
+ Good OVF.
+ Acceptable DR at base ISO if you expose to the right (ETTR). You can hold bright white clouds and blue sky against shadowed foreground in a single RAW frame if your ETTR and process correctly.
+ Shoots fast enough for handheld auto exposure bracketing that you later intend to merge using HDR.
- Struggles at ISO 3200 and you definitely want to ETTR at ISOs 1600 and 3200.
- Somewhat challenging to sharpen due to being apsc with a strong AA filter. The detail is there, but you have to tease it out without emphasizing noise or causing halos.
- 8-bit 1080p only with no video AF tracking. Magic Lantern can give you additional video modes.
Your first lens depends on what you want to shoot. If you don't have a preference, a 35 f/1.4 is a good recommendation for low light. If you ever plan on adding FF, the Tamron EF 35mm f/1.4 SP is one of the best fast 35mm lenses ever made at a fraction of the cost of the Canon 35mm f/1.4L II.
