>Here's some "evidence" i made in photoshop debunk itAnyways, it has been said that panasonic is about a stop dark and most full frames are about 1/3 stop dark so panasonic should be 2/3 stops darker than nikon, so lets try that
Noise reduction is turned off
Top left: Panasonic untouched
Bottom left: Nikon untouched
Top right: Panasonic +2/3 stop
Bottom right: Nikon -2/3 stop
I checked exposure with the rgb values and hovering over the white and gray squares. With panasonic pushed up 2/3 stop the brightness of the squares averages around 233, 215, 185, 140. Same for untouched nikon. Darkened nikon and untouched panasonic have virtually identical color values in the white and gray squares as well.
Panasonics raws basically just have less dynamic range and are underexposed at the same settings to cope. Bringing exposure up to match the highlights and midtones adds too much shadow noise. So yes, ISO on panasonic is not the same as ISO on nikon. It probably has to be, so the jpeg engine and EVF preview can have half decent shadows and just brighten the highlights and midtones which will always have less visible noise.
I look forward to dpreview uploading g9ii raws since they finally added the dual gain tech olympus already had and caught up after decades of panasonic making some of the worst m43 cameras period. Lmao @ all the gh5s with spontaneous IBIS failure and lolwutaf.
