>>4259374Prores really is mostly a scam that funnels money into apples pockets and only exists because RED sues anyone who records real lossless compressed raw and blackmagic isn't 100% cooperative either (higher quality braw on bmpccs than panasonic). It mostly appeals to the kind of "i will be a videographer some day" gearfag who stands among the hobbyists with f1.2 FF primes who will be in vogue someday (never) in thinking he knows what he needs but never coming near professional status.
It's an upgrade from h265 if you are attempting real work, but then again, this normally comes on vlogger and home movie oriented cameras with IBIS, which are, in themselves, less reliable, drain batteries faster, and have more noise and image quality issues from IBIS wobbles or IBIS and gimbals fighting each other even with IBIS "off" (there is no mechanically locking IBIS on the market).
So I just don't support any product that presents prores as "the game changer". No. It fucking isn't. It's a cope codec. Apple and RED can get fucked. Prores also has literally no real advantage of braw when doing deep color shit and greenscreens. None, nada, but it's called "pro" and "res" and most importantly "APPLE" which tells the cattle to eat it. The actual shit you get is so slight that the only way you can show the advantage over braw is to miss white balance by 5000k or crop 800%. Like the gearfag's favorite, whip pan and crop, this isn't really relevant even to silver screen delivery. Noise in video is self-dithering, no one notices, especially not at "crop and you see" levels.
I will stick with BM until someone sues red into the ground and we get actual raw, on a newer MFT camera without IBIS or excessive megapixel numbers - IBIS and megapixels are for coping amateurs. Give me a native res G9IIs with lossless compressed *actual raw* ala NIGGON and no IBIS. Red already established precedent by refusing to defend their patent against the #3 dying camera brand two more weeks...
