Lots of subjects there, you should shoot them individually.

I find it too bright (experiment with those manual exposure settings you're using) and there isn't any real composition. It's just a mess of textures and shapes and shot very flat. I'm not saying to be a bokeh whore but 32mm f/14 is a bit clinical for such a scene. Much of the frame is boring gravel, the downward angle is awkward, and there aren't any good lines to lead your eyes anywhere. They just kind of wander around overwhelmed with nothing interesting to rest on. Also the lighting is very harsh which doesn't feel very zen.

Not shitting on you, I'd struggle to find much I'd want to shoot here especially in this light.

Good stuff, no prob. Try looking for something interesting and then look for a way to frame it in with your surroundings. Remember to move forward and backward as well, you can really affect scale and angle to fit foreground and background objects in and out of frame and make them work together.

Try to avoid too many prominent things (especially things in focus) being cut off at the edge of the frame. If you have to cut them off, experiment with where and how much. Try to aim for symmetry or interesting asymmetry but mainly avoid random clutter at the edges, especially chaotic stuff that flows out of the frame. Look at the entire frame when composing, not just the subject. I find bushy branches flowing in is generally better than out, and can serve as a nice border. Branches flowing out look nicer when they are the thicker variety, and are a good way to fill a corner that may seem too empty. Just my opinions.

I think the composition is busy as others have said, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I like how the 'main subjects' of the image (the green tree on the left, the pink tree opposite, the each of the individual boulders) read like flat 2D sprites. The snakey black tiles are interesting in the context of this composition because they're more obviously 3D and can be seen coming towards or away from the viewer on the Z-axis (depth).

I also like the wide, scroll-like aspect of the composition, however, it feels off-puttingly crooked, as through it's leaning to the right. I think this can be fixed with some rotation and keystoning.

Check out the pages I've attached, I thought of them when I saw your picture.

I find a photograph to be a generally unfinished raw material. It’s real neat that a photograph can be a a self-contained complete work, but when I hear photographers expect that an image be defined purely by the vantage point & mechanical constraints of the camera, I consider that the laziest fucking approach possible, not the purest, to producing art there is. Photographers should know better than anyone that photographic truth is a myth, in that the artist composes & edits the scene to tell the story. Yet only in photography do we still continue to nurse this illusion that the raw output of the camera is less fucked with by the artist. If tye canera outputs a 2:3 or 4:5, then every AR of every completed image is still 2:3 or 4:5, bc the gods forbid making it obvious that the photographer tinkered with the image beyond framing it up & pushing da button.
>Here come to my exhibition, look at a hundred pushes of da button, i swear i did nothing to any of them they're straight out of the camera, revel in my absolute minimum of artistic influence in these images and lack effort.
No, fuck you, the camera spit out you a bunch of images that are your raw materials, now make a compelling image out of them, and I had better see the artists hand in the work ffs, quit relying on the camera to do all the work for you.

I get what you’re saying, painting/illustration/etching/etc all have the artist editing all the time. But most of the workload in those are from the human side. With photography, there’s a perception that the machine does a large chunk of the work.
Maybe because of that, some people believe only straight raw, unedited images would show the human side contribution (pre-shot framing, composition, timing, etc).

Unfortunately, I don’t believe there’s a camera that can in-body process an image on the level compared to our brains. Nor is there a “true” fov lens that can 100% replicate human vision since our brains dynamically stitch and process a lot of things on the fly. So a lot of the unedited raw stuff end up looking “off” to us.

Beautiful shot, anon! Peacocks and their relatives are such fun subjects, we have them wandering around at zoos in my area. With very underexposed photos, I usually crank the exposure compensation, then add more contrast than usual to balance it out. I use RawTherapee, and it has a 'dehaze' tool that works quite well, but usually more contrast is plenty. I fucking hate Adobe and absolutely refuse to even pirate their software out of pure spite, even if my photos would probably look better.

What a beautiful shot! Are you a Michifag too? I always want to go out and get pics of the wet squirrels and birds, but I get paranoid about getting my tele wet. Is your kit weather sealed, or do you have a tripod + umbrella setup? How do you keep everything dry?

Thanks. NY state. My lens is supposedly sealed- Tamron 100-400. The camera, not so much. Just a Canon T8i. We have a lot of local deer...among other animals... that just wander through the neighborhoods. Very suburban area, but not really rural. So, their only predators once they're more than a month or 2 old, are cars and trucks. I get a lot of shots just by going outside once the rains stop. Occasionally though the kitchen window during some weather.
