I have decided on a big project.
I am going to shoot 100 rolls of film of a deserted area of coastline near me. This will occur over 1 year. I just love the place and dont think anybody has really photographed it very well yet.
It is a niche thing for sure and probably not many people would ever care but those from around the area but I dont care I am doing it.

Anyone undertaken a big project like this? Any things I should be thinking about before I start?

Instead of 100 rolls of film you should do 100 sheets of 8x10 film. It will be a lot better.

For comparison it would cost:
$270 for 360 photos of Kodak Ektar 100 (10 rolls)
$191 for 360 photos of Kodak Gold 200 (10 rolls)

Once I add in buying 100 rolls, and getting them all developed at $10 per roll the project is going to cost approx $3000-$4000.

I will be getting poor from my project not rich lol

Ektar is 300 dollars for 10 8x10 sheets. It's roughly the same cost to just shoot 100 sheets.

Do you have a goal or purpose for shooting 100 rolls of film? Seems like a lot of pictures.

I want to go all in on the project across all seasons and weather types and times of day.
Its also realistically about 15 beaches along this part of coast plus other general stuff in the area.

I am going full autism mode here. I want to fully capture this place.

Interesting and fun sounding. How many keepers are you hoping for? What's the final goal for the project in terms of presentation? Is it more a documentation of a place, or an artistic pursuit?

What about the coastline do you want to capture? How do you best show that? You'll need some amount of focus if you want to get anything good out of this.

Somebody once said a photographer only takes 13 good photos in their life.
If I can get one amazing shot per roll I will be happy.
It would kind of be 2 parts though, the summary of the best 100 shots or whatever, and then all the other shots that I still like that add something.

presentation:
flickr initially in web res for some of the shots, but I will store all the negatives well and be keeping any eye out for any galleries etc in the area I can approach if its coming up nicely.For that I would get them printed up nicely in full resolution.

documentation or artistic pursuit:
Good question. It is an artistic choice to shoot it across every weather type and time of day. Its still documenting but its trying to really capture the whole experience of the place. Hopefully it captures the feelings and mood of the place as well as just documenting it.

Thats the part I am working on right now in this planning stage.
Studying tons and tons of other photographers projects photographing areas and seeing how they get variation and keep it interesting.

I also did some test runs trying to photograph some small crap areas in another place to see if I could actually capture a series of photos to show a place. Turns out its really hard and I didnt so that's why I am back to the planning stage.

if medium format it does not sound too bad, try to sell idea to local photography company to see if they support you
