I recently dipped my toes into concert photography by taking some candid shots of a cellist friend during one of their gigs. I nailed most of the shots and they loved it.
I wanna do this thing more often and am confident I could get it up to professional level. I'm classical musician myself and have often had issues with hiring videographers/photographers who don't even know where to point the camera during a concert cause they don't understand the layout of an orchestra. Given that, I doubt I'll have much competition in terms of skill.
The issue is of course getting the connections and finding musicians who aren't broke. My dream would be to get a casual job with a symphony orchestra as that's guaranteed work every weekend during concert season.
Any advice? I'm biased to classical and jazz but I'm open to smaller rock, metal and pop gigs.
