>>4343998You want to get better? Alright then. Read a book. Not being a prick, honestly, read a few books on photography. Obviously get out there and practice as well, since this isn't an exam. You can post photos here but the retards will drown out any actual critique that's aimed at making you better. I own the same camera as you, have a wide lens selection, and do all sorts of photography. None of it is impressive. That being said I've only been doing photography for about 8 months, and started with the goal of just capturing memories and moments.
I've found that it highly depends on your end goal as to whether or not your photography is impressive or not. Yes, you can get kneecapped by having insufficient gear or not knowing what the fuck you're doing, but if you set out with the express goal of producing interesting and/or remarkable images, you will eventually start getting them. Eventually. And not consistently. You will start to develop an eye for things that could make a good photo, but also know that it depends on what kind of photography you're aiming for.
Since you've posted portraits, you want better lighting. It's like the main thing that sets apart the average from the good. I would recommend a speedlite flash and a diffuser at minium. Some reflective umbrellas are handy, so are lightdows and such. The R50's flash is okay, but a bit harsh. You could slap on a universal diffuser that hugs your lens as a cheaper alternative since thanks to Canon's dickhead move of NOT putting traditional hot shoe pins on this fucking camera, you need to buy an adapter to fit aftermarket flashes. Btw, fuck Canon. Great camera btw.
Oh and btw please don't enable any of the auto optimising shit Canon has put in this camera. Turn that shit off.
