Hey, last month i started a thread about getting models.
I have 3-5 fits to shoot and tried contacting random girls and cosplayers from ig. Tried messaging around 20 girls. I believe people nowdays dont even bother with the request message tab so i also tried contacting by relpying to a story. I sent a simple message like "hi, do you have a mail for business inquires?" or "hi, i need to shoot 5 pieces of clothes and looking for a paid model, let me know if interests you". None replied and i gave up.

If you're a dude, people now see "man seeking woman" photographers as serial killers and creeps trying to hire a prostitute on the down low, and largely have since the 70s, which is how every portrait studio type gigs amateur segment became female dominated ("mommy with a camera"). And why? Because, in lieu of aggressively applying physiognomy meeting up with random dudes with cameras actually is a good way to get into sketchy situations. Shoot weddings and realestate until you can look like a trusted name and then you can do portraits. it also helps if you aren't single or hire a female assistant for makeup cooridnation.

Oh thanks but fuck that, thats not for me. On top of paying i need to handle additional bullshit like getting a gf before and doing additional work with realestate and weedings, things i dont give a fuck about

the juices arent worth the squeeze, better to keep shooting only nature

Yes, that's why so few people actually do it. You work as a barely paid irrelevant snapshitting faggot for 5 years getting a portfolio of PEOPLE pics (animals might show artistic fundamentals, but animals are also fundamentally beautiful. the majority of humans are dysgenic and ugly so photographing them without producing horror material is its own skillset) and then you need facilities and employees just to have clients acknowledge you.

This is why agencies exist. Models don’t want to deal directly with photographers they don’t know. Go through an agency. Pay their rates.

the catch is im an amateur and this is a personal project that i would pay from my pocket and the world will go totally fine if this dont get done
what im saying is that theres no pressure to get things done, cut corners and make it happen
it either comes perfectly in my terms or just dont

i wasnt trying to cut the middleman by contact girls directly and have nothing against agencies, althought, i can find better girls browsing ig than the one from agencies, since they specialize in a type of girl

my album would benefit from amateurs and i also would use the opportunity to meet cosplayers and later try doing another album about cosplayers (ive been watching anime all my life)

oh and yeah, i was planning to sponsor a cosplayer to market my brand in the future, this initial contact with them would be useful, instead of meeting pro models from agencies who have 0 interest in going to cons and competing
i have this stupid dream of owning a greyhound racing team although i dont have the money for that yet and the races were recently forbidden in my country

i sponsored a small soccer team from my college for about 15 months with about 2 minimun wages per month, i bet thats more than enough for a single cosplayer to win a comp

Me, however, has no problems getting models even for nude work, got two booked for when I rotate back home and this one on 4x5. I don't use Instagram, OF, I almost exclusively use Facebook and word-of-mouth. Anyway, some tips. 1/2

Don't be a fuckin creep. Don't use your camera to get laid, it ain't happening. Rub one out before you shoot, get it out of your system, no boners on set. Shit's weird.

This is the big one, SHOOT FILM and especially something ridiculous like 6x7, large format, etc. Women know that no man in their right mind is going to go through all the trouble of large format just to rape women or see them naked. They see an 80 year old camera as art. They see your pervy dSLR or mirrorless digital as some creep who's gonna fap to my pictures later.

Then, bring the digital for "exposure tests", it will get your foot in the door and once you have a body of work, more girls will want to work with you.

Join a local TFP Facebook page, they are out there especially in Florida. Hell, I found one in Ohio. Get your name out there. Don't be afraid to work with conventionally unattractive people, fat chicks and meth heads are where you develop your skills, smoothing out wrinkles and stretch marks, posing them so they look smaller, that's where you cut your teeth. Anyone can take good pictures of IG e-girls with their tits hanging out, shit ain't rocket science. It's subject-driven material.

Women don't respond to DMs or instant messages. Work with actual models or girls getting their foot in the door, E-girls don't look at their messages they are there to harvest vapid likes and clout, not pose in front of your camera. I don't care how good you are, give up.

I have a lady in my inbox and we are discussing some concepts and I brought up mirrors "I'd love to work with mirrors, hang on" and hit them with this shot by Newton. "I'd like to try a variation on this, on black and white film, you don't have to take your clothes off I just want to work with mirrors for a set, this would look really nice with a white dress it will contrast well on (insert brand of film here)" It's that easy. The younger crowds these days call it a "mood"

On some of these TFP pages you will have girls who want to break into the industry and need to show those agencies a body of work before they get signed on.

Another one, and this is crucial, set yourself apart from the sea of dudes in their inbox trying to use their camera to bang them. My secret weapon is an Ikelite housing, I do underwater portraits. I have literally met women at the Florida springs who saw me walking around with this shit not intending to shoot any people, just underwater landscapes, and they see it and want to work with me. It's huge, it's cantankerous and totally ridiculous, but it works and it ain't stupid if it works. These are people who did not find me online, they found me in the real world.

Get out and shoot. Have some balls, have some gumption, talk to your friends and tell them "you would be perfect for (insert type of photography) hell I met my girlfriend on accident that way. Shit just happened.

OF and IG are strictly for clout chasing, popularity contests and revenue generation. No serious artists work there anymore, maybe a few do but most of it is just a high school popularity contest. Almost ever E-girl uses their phone because it takes pictures good enough to be viewed on a phone, and Americans are addicted to their phones like shits life support.

This is also not a bad route. It's 2024, OF has taught women they can be paid millions to take pictures of their feet. Don't be afraid to pay them for their time. You can go through an agency, or pay them directly, women love that because they can get paid without the middle man.

This is also correct. I bring my girlfriend on set as an "assistant" she just sits there and reads books. That is a huge confidence boost to whoever you're working with.

One other thing, if you're building a port, don't fill it full of women who all look the same, that tells prospective clients you have a type, and are in it to see boobs. Shoot men, shoot couples, shoot adults, shoot black girls and do all the commercial shit.

Primary objective number one is to set yourself apart from the thousands of men in their inbox having conversations with themselves trying to use their camera to get in their pants.

Thanks for writing the long tips but as i said, that was just some vague idea i had. My idea was to find amateurs via ig that i find attractive, pay between 200-500 and shoot couple pics.

This reminds me of something that helped me get over being self conscious about carrying around my camera in public. I felt like if I was just carrying around a camera I looked like a tourist or a creep but if I had a backpack or sling and a tripod under my arm I felt much more confident in my appearance and the extra gear marked me out as someone who was here to take photos in a purposeful way, if that makes sense.

But I'm also amature, and the girls cosplaying are also not pro models which can be hard to work with especially if your new as in getting good shots/posing. The plus side is, you don't have pay an agency.
Instagram can be useful but again it's a popularity contest and you can't resonably expect these people to looking their DMs unless they are soliciting it.

On the creep topic. Having resonable gear help to alleviate that aspect. But for me it was as simple as asking someone I liked their cosplay and I would like to shoot a scene. Don't be afraid of asking a girl what you want. At worst the person will say no/they are busy which for me ( a skinny bald guy) never happened. Shit I think it's an awsome way to get a GF (hell even getting laid on the coomerside) if you enjoy a fandom. The creep aspect is when you start getting touchy feely and pushing people to do thing they aren't comfy with.
On that note lewds or no lewds I think it's super important for a model to feel comfy with you. Not just being safe but also you have the same goals of getting good production and shots. Girls who are uncomfortable or stressed clearly show it during the shooting.

Every woman wants to feel beautiful, it is our job as photographers to make them pretty.

Study the classics, Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Bunny Yeager, you can shoot women without being Uncle Terry.

We weren't assuming you were trying to use your camera to get laid but, I've been here a while and one of these threads pops up every couple of months and at this point I'm screenshotting the whole thread and saving it for later because there is a lot of solid advice in here not just on shooting women but people in general.

I used to be like you, afraid to talk to women, no people skills, slightly misogynistic, it ain't too late to change, life is a learning experience and it just rolls on, you can either learn from this and move forward and complete your concept, or be a complete total bitch.

I don't know where you are, but here in Europe there's tons of photography models running around offering their services, I follow them on instagram. Plus there's model agencies that hire out their models for events and shoots. You could book one, get some solid shots, and then use those as your business card with other women: "This is my previous work, I'd love to shoot with you".
