I've been doing /p for about a year now after transitioning from being an audio engineer and I just wanted to say photography is so much better; seriously guys don't envy the sound team.

I used to run a studio that did live recordings for classical musicians, but that flopped due to most musicians not actually caring about their music that much.

I got a camera as part of this and quickly realized people take photographers way more seriously than sound techs. I faced severe resistance just offering to record groups for free but when it came photography I was given pretty much free reign and people usually offered to pay before I asked.

Individual musicians can be pretty self-absorbed but don't actually want their music to be analyzed, so they love the camera. More importantly, the social media treadmill creates basically an infinite demand for photos.

I'm a lot happier and now have a hobby that doesn't involve >140m of XLR cable and 3 roadcases of gear.

I know in film school they tell you that good sound is so much more important than good footage but I don't really believe this anymore; the average person thinks a Rode camera mic sounds good. Media is still visually-dominated and so photography is doing just great.
