Start with a fixed focus disposable camera that you just point and click. Take at least 250 shots. If you have ten good ones, come back and discuss equipment and technology.

Or get a cheap modern DSLR, crank the ISO to 3200, use a 35mm lens set to f8, turn the autofocus off and manually focus to just below infinity

That way timing is everything because you now have a point and click camera. When your timing is good, the rest starts to matter.
