Before photo of an absolutely filthy disgusting D70 with kit lens I got for about 25 bucks. Gave it as a present to my oldest friend after vigorous cleaning with rubbing alcohol, paper towels, various brushes. No idea how it got this bad but it came with a billion batteries and a charger and a little case so I really can't complain.

the mirror even had a little crack on it, no idea if it even had a detrimental effect, but even more confused how that could even happen in the first place

Based D70 enjoyer. The handgrip rubber degrades and gets sticky over time, just the material it was made of. I got a 80-200 f2.8 for cheap and it takes nice pics. Might consider using the usb cable to transfer pics even though it’s slow as the CF slot is very prone to failure.

I think a lot of the CF card reader problems are something to do with it being really picky about voltage. Some batteries make it happy, some don't, some temperatures etc. If you like D70, I repaired a D70S whose flash wouldn't close. For some reason the part the latch hooked onto was proud of where it should be.

Here's what it looked like to start with, way too tall. I electrocuted myself on the flash capacitor twice.

I filed the little circle guy down, seemed like it adjusted its height if you twisted it but that didn't seem to be enough.

This is a 1954 Zeiss Contaflex II with a lazy aperture and some other issues I'm sorting. I'm trying to avoid a full disassembly but it may be inevitable as that's how every Contaflex I work on ends up

im never going to try to fix a camera again it always ends in disaster for me. i can fix old electronics but this watchmaking shit is too much. I got 2 zenith cameras I can't put back together again and an olympus pen with a misplaced lens now

It's responsible for showing the current f-stop setting in the viewfinder, and is part 2017-5814-02 in this diagram (Sorry that I didn't post a picture, but I didn't think of it when I was redoing the light seals and don't feel like taking it apart again). I got one of these cameras at a thrift shop for $25, and everything with it is great except this part is straight up missing somehow.

You own more than one of these? Fixed lens SLR's are not most people's go-to. What's got you so interested in them? They're definitely a really pretty camera.

That's the thing, they're orphan cameras that make excellent images. The Contaflex 2 is almost small enough to fit in a pocket. It has excellent image quality and the later models with sort-of interchangeable lenses were good too.

Remember, it has Zeiss optics and very good Zeiss optics at that. I'm not sure why I got interested in them, probably from my interest in the Retina Reflex, another German leaf-shutter SLR with good German optics.

Here's a D800 I did a back plate and screen replacement on.

A pair of screws come loose with time and come in contact with the power module, causing a short. Tightening them and gluing them in place, or removing them entirely, gets the camera back up and running if the power module isn't fucked, from what I've read

I got a G10 from a thrift store months ago for the equivalent of about 20 USD, I still haven't taken it out to shoot anything with it. I love the build quality, it really feels like its built the way a 5D would be built it if were smaller.
