How dead? The photography is in containment threads (/fgt/ and /rpt/) and 90% of threads are about hating sony, shilling panasonic, or asking what camera to buy.
Mods have one course of action to save it

Delete every gear thread that is not /gear/. Make a new board rule prohibiting making gear threads outside of /gear/. Advertise it at the top of the sticky, replacing "Please post images that are JPG format and ideally smaller than 1 MB, and/or about 1000 pixels on the longest side." because its a rule that belongs in 2012 (even most thinkpads have 4k displays now)

Every night or two, delete new gear threads for gear outside of /gear/ and ban the OPs for 3 days.

Every few nights, delete new gear threads for gear outside of /gear/, ban the OPs for a week or more, and ban everyone who replied to do anything but call op a fag for 3 days.
If they can't do this, sony hater fag might as well flood the board with tranny porn 24/7. Nothing would change. I might actually pay some indians to do that anyways just to get their attention. A 5 minute thread wait is nothing when you can get residential proxies a dozen concurrent connections for $13 a line and ten guys from new delhi for $5 each.
