The renaissance itself was a period of experimentation during which new art styles were brought into fashion and new techniques worked out. Some painting styles such as Giuseppe Arcimboldos vegetable people, El Grecos stringy people, or Bosch' bizarre allegorical surrealism were considered too Avantgarde and were not developed further - but more modern artists such as Francis Bacon, Salvador Dali, and Jackson Pollock went on to inspire generations of new artists to pursue similar styles and to develop them further.
Sometimes art is deeply rooted in its time and context. That doesnt make it bad.
