I did win some writing and sculpting contests in school, but only because I was encouraged to enter by teachers. Had a poem published in 1994 although I don't know the name of the book it's in, just that it's a Scholastic. Have sold prints though, including some for a homeless charity. Have had some non-wildlife shots published in newspapers as freelance over the years, just because they were of no value to me personally and it was a quick $250 each time.
Never really cared for contests or the opinions of people whose work I don't see any merit in. As for the opinions of people I do value, I don't actively pursue that either. I just don't care enough. This is one of my hobbies and I treat it as such. It's for me.
