Think about light more. Subject and composition has some interest, but the light is what lets me down on most shots. I know it is mostly out of your control, but maybe there is a better time to visit the spots you photograph that will provide a better light for you.

I like shadows, I exposed for the highlights and took photos with big areas of dark shadow.
I already shoot color film which I focus on getting nice colors and exposure so I wanted to try something rough and different with black and white film.

B&W is 90% shadows and texture, the landscape pic is decent but the only saving grace was the latter.

Try using lower ISO film or a larger format too. The golf ball sized grain is distracting.

The same settings metered for the sun standing outside.
I just use a handheld light meter which I had metered the sun outside before i went into that building, I do not use the on camera meter.
