Seriously though, there' some merit to it. It's basically the fundemental concept of anti-gearfagging. Chosing a standard zoom would be plain easy-mode though in terms of difficulty, but would still get the message across. If you went with a prime it would be more difficult, and might make some shots less "perfect" than if you had an appropriate FL, but you would end up being a better photograhper by the end of it. You'd be forced to think about compositions and positioning yourself, otherwise your shit would be shit.
I own five lenses and I'm fairly confident if I only rolled around with my 35mm prime, I'd be set for anything that isn't a birb or a paid-grade portrait. The other lenses I have are for convenience for the most part, so the idea in theory is sound to my understanding.
