Realistically how hard would it be for manufacturers like Fuji or Olympus to break into the full frame market? A hypothetical full frame retro-larp from fuji would really only be competing against the nikon zf. Is the only limiting factor that they don't have a full frame coverage lens mount? If sigma can get permission to use L mount surely Fuji or Olympus can, right?

Why would they bother when the sony a7cii outsells all of nikon?

Fuji has the only digital medium format that’s actually practical for being anything but a studio tripod queen and the x100vi, and olympus has their adventure camera marketing, they’re fine where the are

It is weird that they are not selling full frame already, but there is probably some hidden agreement.
They have legacy glass and made good 35mm SLRs, well, at least Olympus did.

They're already heavily invested in 4/3s and APS-C and do a lot of coping for their smaller format, to then go and concede that FF is better would not only alienate all of their customers it would be quite an undertaking. Sure, they could just release an L mount body and tell everyone to get third party lenses but that doesn't look very good, and there's probably difficulties involved with selling a body bundled with a third party lens.

Lumix started with m43 (well 4/3 but you know), had their own lenses. Why couldn't olympus or fuji do the same?

olympus having shutter speed around the lens mount always seemed weird to me but i guess people liked it enough that they did it for decades, plus yeah most of the old zuiko glass is still pretty good and even the m.zuiko m43 stuff is good to great (the only complaints seem to come from either one-off shitty lenses, or the panasonic leica guys complaining that the olympus equivalents are too sharp, too perfect, no LEICA THREE DEE POP, etc)

Fuji probably sees no reason to and already has two different lines of bodies and lenses going (X and GFX, the latter of which they have the niche of pretty much entirely to themselves) to where a third line would be way too money-prohibitive for the possible returns in the already crowded full frame market. Olympus has no money period.

olympus died after decades of mismanagement/internal money laundering/japanese government intevention/etc and what was left was re-rebranded as om system and is now held by a holding company who has done only the bare minimum to keep the trademark (re-releasing lenses and bodies with OM SYSTEM instead of OLYMPUS on it). their "throw something at the wall" will be the to-be-seen-in-february new body, which from all previews, appears to just be another E-M5 III rebadge with the useless art dial of the admittedly erotic Pen-F stuck to the front

If the silhouette of the camera they keep teasing is what it will actually look like, eg something that just looks like an OM2, then I'd be pretty interested. The Pen-F is pretty popular now, so people swooning after those might buy this. I love m43 but it really feels like you're limited to primes with the gimped DOF
