1) Not enough DoF. This could be solved upping the aperture or standing back and cropping/zooming in. If cropping you need more reach than the T2i can provide. Stopping down would also cut on the chromatic aberration a bit too.
2) Angle is neither flat nor fully oblique, it's like you passed by it and snapped a shot.
3) Background is unappealing, think of this sort of photography as a still nature shot.
4) Lighting is unappealing. You could make it look more savory by either using a colder white balance (makes the whole image warmer) and making the powdered sugar not look bluish anymore, or better yet, use a filtered (warmed up and diffused) off-camera flash. This could help you with point (1) by allowing you to stop down more without introducing shake if you don't have a tripod at hand. Another alternative would be to go for an even colder look that is deliberately cold, not that "not-quite-neutral" balance.
