depends on how shitty your lens coat it is. For modern lenses its just nice to have if you are out in the sun, pointing almost directly and dont want glare.

If you are using something like a lens without coating or soviet shit it really makes a difference in contrast and glare

Not that necessary for modern lenses in 70% of conditions. Moderately useful in general though to keep stray light out and offer rudimentary protection. They're cheap as fuck and there's like no drawbacks so I use em.

It depends on the lens. Shoot with the sun out or bright windows around with and without it and see what changes. For a lot of modern uwa/standard zooms it doesnt matter and gives you maybe 3 extra degrees of no flare. For vintage and cheap lenses you genuinely need them unless you want a washed out photo.

Hoods are not as necessary on modern lenses with modern coatings. They serve two purposes these days; protection from impact and protection from water or liquid.

You can still induce a small amount of glare from stray light but nowhere near as bad on something like an old Jupiter-11 135/4 or anything else with single coat optics.

I stare at the sun to hyper sensitize my films, then I do a fast exposure of my films and transcribe what particle movement and/or impression I see from the photos I take in my films. Fake cameras are completely unessesary to develop your film, but sometimes if you want to take a picture of something going really fast or dangerous such as a nuclear particle a shutter may be helpful.
