That's kind of a disappointment for stills. The weather sealing is cool though, you don't see that often in compacts. They won't, but a stills focused version with a longer lens, thinner build and flash would be cool.

I don't fucking believe it. If this is priced under $800 it will dominate the market. Under $1000 and I think it'll still be competitive. Watch it cost $1400 though.

There's no bad products, just bad prices. The bodies tank hard on the used market, I have heaps of them, most for under 60 dollars. At that price any ILC mirrorless is pretty hard to pass up. I would rather saw my legs off than buy one new, goes for most cameras really. But they're cool products.

Sony is #1 in full frame ILCs. That is not making the second best everything. That's making the best full frame ILCs.

Sony makes godawful entry level and crop sensor gear other than the a6700, which is the only decent aps-c camera they have ever made (the rest are merely "a little better made than a fuji"), but their FF ILCs are absolutely superior to canon and nikons low DR blobs.

Canon and nikon should really stick to where they do well, which is low tier compact cameras for normies to shoot jpeg with.

Canon has a usable jpeg engine. Panasonic and olympus have a sony jpeg engine. For normie compacts, this matters a lot more than it does for professional cameras. Only one kind of professional who doesnt even need a FF camera shoots jpeg (churn and burn instant-upload snapshitter). Every normie needs jpeg because they are sharing pictures with impatient friends, not making works of art.

4k60 is for slow motion video, usually you film something a little further away for slow motion so it doesn't really matter

in most real reviews the a7cii skin tones are very red. the reason this one is reposted all the time is because the only sony skin tone issue to ever exist was older cameras auto white balance inappropriately adding green tints to videos to compensate for a nonexistent excess of magenta lighting (actually peoples skin).

i've always thought that the way film aspect ratios tend to be wider on the smaller end and get progressively more square as you go down the larger end is good, and suits use cases and intended final output well. 4:3 always felt more like a portraiture frame to me so it feels a bit strange on m43 and most of the 2000s compacts and point and shoots which are generally snapshot cameras. snapshots are good for posting online or printing at 4x6. all the cameras i use for street shooting are 3:2 and it feels right because you get to fit a lot of people into frame and i'm never going to be printing these as standalones larger than 4x6. potentially larger than that in a bound medium but then it's not going to be framed so exact dimensions aren't that critical.
then again, half frame is 4:3 so what do i know
side note: this may be the best-looking canon camera i've ever seen. unfortunately it's a bit generic but i guess canon's never been especially focused on an identifiable aesthetic

I’m not paid. how much does panasonic pay you? If i could get paid to troll people on the internet out of buying good cameras and into buying bad cameras that would be great. Purify photography of NPCs by sticking them with junk only an autist could cope with. Why recommend people a great sony body when they could end up quitting after struggling with panasonic?

I use my 11mm f1.8 lens (crop sensor) a lot for selfie with friend, shooting friend across from the table, and photographing stuff on the table (boardgame, food).

It fits in my 3.5L tomtoc bag along with a 30mm f1.4 and 56mm f1.7.
