At first I thought this was rubbish, but the actual implementation is actually fucking neat. This absolutely mogs the slow wireless pairing of those old prototype tier Sony QX1 and Olympus Air.
My question is, is the sensor also housed in the lens module? So essentially ita just the lens and sensor in the "lens" part and it piggybacks the screen, controls, battery and processor from the phone?
And why the 70mm equiv lens?

my only guess is that 70mm eqv is still in the zone where its easy to make a sharp fast lens. like the fastest hasselblad lens for the old v system was a 70mm equiv if you based it on the long edge or something like you were trying to do equiv based on the image circle instead of the diagonal

Of course, it's just a p&s minus the user interface. It's been done before, like the sony qx100. The improvements appear to be the magnetic attachment and the optical data transfer. Both of which mean you have to buy a new phone to use with it.

None of these improvements address the core problem of this design, which is that you could just buy a real camera instead of yet another stupid dongle for your phone that will become ewaste in 6 months when they drop support for the app.

No, it's half of a camera. The phone is the other half. So now you have two devices to carry around, a phone and a phone accessory that lets the phone take better pictures. If you're carrying two devices why wouldn't one of them be a real camera, with buttons and a grip and an SD card slot and all the other things that make a camera better at taking pictures than a phone?

nta but I agree that the inconvenience of having two devices remains despite its advances over the Sony, Olympus and DXO's attempts. Glad they are trying it out and I hope they have success but I really doubt it given the lens is still fairly thick. On the other hand, the lens looks like it will be really good and for a 35/1.4 m43 lens is pretty compact. If the processing isn't garish, it could be a winner. I have a GR, and RX100 as well as m43 (wishing for a GM5 update) so this new phone will go on my shortlist. But I'll be waiting for reviews for sure.
