Blazar does AF anamorphic too, Sirui was just first to market
Anamorphic at only 1.33x kinda sucks though, but I wonder if going farther isn't possible because it messes with the AF algorithm

Spherical elements are normally completely uniform and circular in their concave or convex dimensions.
Aspehrical elemtents will normally involve some flattening or bulging of the center of the elements to create a non-uniform surface where the total thickness of the element from front to back is not the equal across the entire glass.

What it means:
Reduces aberrations, increases sharpness in image corners and edges. Basically gives the optical designers better control in to where the light is directed onto the sensor. However, it can create shitty bokeh and increase costs as they are harder to make

Ehh. No. This gives a 40mm vertical FOV when shooting in crop/Super 35, and 30mm horizontal. When shooting in full frame mode (and you can with this lens, because it actually covers the whole full frame sensor), it gives a 27mm vertical FOV and a 20mm horizontal FOV.

Unfortunately, this is only good with a Panasonic camera since it can record with the full sensor (3:2/open gate).

No it doesn't, it's 40mm/30mm before crop may (or may not) be applied. See picrel for their 24mm 1.33x.

We are reaching levels of crop sensor cope that shouldn't even be possible. Not only is it stupid cope, but it's wrong. If it's a 40mm lens and it works on full frame, it's still a 40mm perspective. All lenses are labeled as if they were full frame lenses, regardless of what the lens is designed for and what the image circle actually covers because it's the distance from the rear element of the lens to the sensor/film plane.

Yeah I know, I messed up. I mean it's 30/40mm on a full frame sensor and 45/60mm when shooting in APS-C.

Of course, there is the crop from the 3:2 down to 16:9 so it's more like a 30/45mm on full frame and 45/75mm on APS-C.

it's the distance to the virtual focal point, measured as if it was an "ideal" lens (basically a pinhole)
distance to rear element doesn't have anything to do with it, you can have different lens designs with different physical dimensions that are all optically equivalent on the same format

While I get what you're trying to say, this really only applies to lens mounts that have APS-C and FF; not things like Digiital MF etc.

See this is why equivelancy is a myth. You change the aspect ratio and all the FoV math stops mathing.
Like, okay, I take a Full Frame 50mm lens and I strap it to a MF sensor and then crop it down to 1.75:1 and crop in post to remove vignetting. What's my FoV now?
The reverse is the same level of retardation except you don't have to crop, the camera crops because it has to.

Fuck. I really wish manufacturers just spoke in terms of degrees of FoV and people using cameras understood what a degree or a radian was.

For example, to match 80mm on GFX, while using FF, you'd want:
>a 63mm if comparing diagonal FoV
>a 58mm if you were to then crop the FF image to 4:3
>a 66mm lens if you were cropping the GFX image to 3:2
The FoV math doesn't stop just because you have a different aspect ratio, and that image is about FoV equivalency, not just sensor ratios

Chinese lens manufacturing is kinda cool. Some of the companies have probably helped tame the insane vintage lens market to some degree and I am sure it has lowered the prices for cinema lenses.
In many cases they are better optically too than over-hyped vintage stuff plus you have the added bonus of not having to deal with all the issues that comes with old lenses.
Those companies that use the brand name of old legacy glass and charge over $1000 for some reissue can go suck a lemon though.
