Nikon D800 - $300-400 ebay, $200-300 local
Nikon AF-S 24-120 F4 VR - $200-300 ebay, $150-250 local
This setup will take sharp, 36mp, low noise photographs of everything and anything that exists especially if you keep the lens at f8-f11 and can stick it on a tripod for ISO 100, multi second exposures (go long enough and it will actually hide pedestrians and cars). Great for inspection work. And if you're working, why not use a tripod and do it right?
Also consider D7XXX series DSLRs and the 18-80 f2.8-4 VR. Not as sharp or high res, but still unkillable work cameras.
Early mirrorless build quality and battery life is piss fucking poor, especially if it's sony/fuji. Mirrorless is actually still more expensive than DSLRs unless you want to cope with a piece of crap, unreliable camera (ie: a sony) thats only worthwhile for street photography and touristy activities where you neither want to carry big shit nor want to worry about losing a lot of money to theft. For getting work done, DSLRs remain ideal for anyone not into paying multiple thousands for a camera body just so it can do stills worse than a DSLR and video worse than a proper cinema camera.
