I am going to try developing my own black and white film.
I am thinking to buy HC110, is this a massive fuckup?
I want high contrast results and I do not want to fuck around having to store 5L of liquid like other developers.

HC110 sounds like I can just syringe out what I need when I develop a roll or 2.

Also I am planning to push my negatives hard when shooting.

The most significant difference between most developers is whether or not they are solvent based. The solvent developers tend to reduce grain and create a “fine grain” effect by eating away at the edges of the film grain (silver halide crystals). The downside for fine grain is a slight loss in sharpness. Non-solvent developers leave the edges of the grain untouched, resulting in a sharper but grainier image.

ok i definitely want solvent then, I am not going to disolve away my negative with some cucked non solvent solution.

Rodinal might be a better option, the legit stuff literally lasts for decades, high contrast and you can use it and throw it away.

HC110 is a good place to start.

Developing BW is very fun, and you should get good results first time as long as you follow a known methodology, and stick by it.

I started using HC110 recently and I like it.
I'm using it with constant agitation in Jobo CPE-3
You should also try Xtol (Adox XT-3)

Feels like I’ll waste a lot of it, I don’t want to be storing 5l of liquid and having to be throwing it out in 3 months.

I've been using HC110-B for about five years now. It's easy to mix and lasts ages as a concentrate. You can get the contrast you need by using the right film stock (I like Acros)
