Why does everyone simply ignore that street as a genre is a shambling corpse?

Classic street photography was based around the idea of capturing the small moments of life that happened on the streets.
>Because people used to just hang out outside on the street, not in their houses

I feel like this crucial aspect of the genre, that people just existed outside in the past, has been ignored and lead to a serious warping of the genre into something entirely different. Outside has become a liminal space. It's just the thing you have to do to get from inside one building to another, it's a necessary evil as far as most people are concerned and if they could simply teleport from inside one building to another, they would. Nobody wants to be outside in street photography anymore, they have to be and this has radically shifted the subject matter from people engaging in life, to simply walking through a crosswalk or holding an umbrella. There would be a place for the genre if it responded in a sane manner to this change, showing the isolation and desolation of modern existence, but in typical fashion, it tries to make it hyper-cinematic and grandiose, it becomes a lie.
