>>4420233i didn’t really know what was going on with my life around that time period. i was living in an economically depressed shit hole in New York state along the mohawk river. many of the photos I was making and taking at the time revolved around the dust and detritus of that area. and, as i was drifting through these towns, i’d long for human contact, for beauty. so the idea of the shot was more like simulating a dream state, a common surrealist convention. placing the pole dancer in a dusty, unused barn displaces both subjects and evokes, to me and some other viewers, this sort of longing i was describing earlier. like a daydream.
in other terms, you’re working on a farm and while doing mind numbing work in the barn, you envision some big titty dream girl to occupy your mind out of boredom and longing.
