>>4421788Is in /p/ posts /ic/. Next time show Wolfgang Tillmans.
Anyway. I have curated small time exhibitions and displayed my work a few times. It's really not that cool.
>What did you show?I have shown original works or mine, and I have showcased original and pre existing works by photographers and students of mine.
I did an original contest based around cellphone photog, I did a retrospective with around 12 artists and I did a massive multi room exhibition with my students that included videos, photobooks, still photo and painting because I was involved with the art department at the school.
What was it like?
Honestly curatorial work is cooler than showing yourself. It feels more important and impactful. You're showing people's work because you deemed them important and you're putting a show for people out there and bringing people together through images and ideas. Plus connecting artworks can bring out interesting conversations in the field.
Showing your shit is boring. Feels irrelevant, people don't seem to care and no one talks to you about your work and when they do, you wish they didn't. From the idiots misinterpreting your work, trying to get a gotcha out of the conversation, incredibly pretentious assholes and people who just pretend to care but you can tell they don't. It really sucks and can be very awkward. I've always hated the art crowd.
>Any tips for someone applying to shows, or trying to get into the scene?Don't. But if you really want and I don't hold it against you. Being a massive ass kissing faggot helps. You really want to befriend curators, gallerists and not other artists unless they themselves are plugged in. State sponsored projects can be the best, followed by institutions, then alternative spaces and finally galleries. Galleries want to make money, the others want to show cool shit, but there are levels to how much nepotism they can engage in.
>Post pictures!Fuck no. My shows have my name on them.
