EXIF Photos

Post photos with EXIF data attached. I'd like to see which ones work.

Picrel branch as seen through the window of my apartment. EXIF copied over by Photoshop Elements 2023 through the "save as" function with jpeg selected. Right click properties and the data is there.

I'm gonna go ahead and help you out because nobody told me either, exif works from everywhere, thats not the problem. Randomly exif data would show up when I posted on 4chan and I had no idea why sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. What was actually happening was I was forgetting to turn my canon phone app on that sent GPS data to the camera.

On /p/ exif data will only be displayed if there is no GPS / location data. You can easily set up Darktable to strip this out. Add all of these values with no formula and it removes them.

apparently it was one of the features compromised
fyi, 4chan was riddled with vulnerabilities and had been compromised by outside parties for over a year. the info the hackers released was doctored on demand after they went public. it took them a suspiciously long time to post pastes compared to how quickly they dumped a copy of the entire database at once and how long they had access for. it seemed a little white hat and like an insider job.

exif is getting stripped at file upload, that's it. at most people could use exiftool to dump the exif to text and paste it on the post but that's probably too much of a hassle

It's there after export from editor before upload. I download from 4chan and... it's gone. I was just thinking it was put on wrong or 4chan only likes a certain format for it.

I wonder if it's certain exif data, like in addition to the gps thing above, that triggers the strip. How exactly are they stripping it needs to be figured out as well. We might be able to keep exif data by placing it in the wrong property fields, or malforming the xml.

If all else fails I can create a program that renames *.jpg with it's exif data for upload to 4chan.

Upon investigation with hex editor, It's not just stripping xml, it's re-compressing the whole thing.

It would not surprise me if the way they "patched" the vulns was by disabling every single auxiliary function of the site that isn't posts and images. Remember, the flash board has been nuked to prevent injection attacks, so it's not a stretch to think they've just gone overkill until they actually get a software dev to fix the underlying issues. That might be a long time, it might be never.

this does unfortunately mean 4chan has fallen victim to the jpeg crust that infests the web where every repost gets more deep-fried (which is bad) and archives can't track by md5 anymore (which is probably good)
