Is it faster to just use the SD card reader instead of plugging my camera into the PC? At the very least I think it will save battery.

I don't like taking the sd card out a lot as I feel like it will wear off the connectors faster so I just plug the camera into the computer when I don't use the wifi app.

Yes because usb ports are more durable than sdcard slots and cards. You risk more damage to the camera and the card constantly screwing around opening doors, disengaging the card, inserting the card into a reader, pulling it back out opening the camera back up, inserting and loading the card and closing the door.
All that will cause more wear and potential damage than: Plug in cable. Unplug cable.

You literally just need to know the specs of the USB ports you're using and the SD Card reader you have.
If you're using a card reader, the reader and the card need to be up to spec otherwise you're throttling yourself somewhere (i.e. doesn't matter if the reader is UHS-II if the card isn't even UHS-I spec)
Same thing if you're using a cable. If your camera port is USB 3.2 but the cable you use is 2.0 you're going to get max 480Mb/s.

>USB 2.0 is 480Mb/s
>USB 3 (3.2 gen 1) 5Gb/s
>UHS-I Reader 104MB/s (so 8x to work out Mb, which means about 840Mb/s)
>UHS-II Reader 312MB/s ( " " , which means about 2500Mb/s)

I personally bought a UHS-II reader because it's less cables the better.

I use a USB-C reader that does CF, SD and a few others you can get them at Best Buy

If you aren't shooting 1000 images a day at some event or something, none of this matters really but as cheap as readers are you would be stupid not to use one.

I just come home and my camera uploads to the cloud via WiFi. Nikon Imaging Cloud is nice when you set it up properly.
Tooks longer but I usually don't edit/cull my images the same day I take them so I don't care. When I want to edit them they're on my NAS
I upload RAWs to image cloud and that sends them over to dropbox. On my NAS a script just auto-moves RAWs from dropbox into the proper folders.
