If I ask some college students to help me model for my photography do I have to pay them or is giving them the pictures for the instagram enough? What is your guys experience in this?

An acquaintance who is aspiring to become a professional photographer just posts on his instagram or asks in his social circle when he needs models. He specifically advertises those shoots as TFP (time for print) so there is no false expectations.
He once even shot me like that, it was really fun and made me interested in portrait photography, which previously I didn't much care for
