You look at something like the Brooklyn Nets last year, they had like 8 first round draft picks and they picked Europeans that are never going to even come over. It just denies other teams picks or the ability to improve their roster. Same as restricted free agency where you can offer a player you don’t even want a large contract and the team has to match it, chewing up their salary cap out of spite.
It’s a form of gamesmanship. Also, proven assets going forward, even ones that aren’t draws, just solid guys who won’t embarrass themselves, they’re going to be a premium. The last batch of superstars has left. No one has figured out how to make new ones. We’re at the point where the headline of Wrestlemania 5 years from now could be a Paul brother vs Oba Femi or something and that’s the best case scenario.
