There's a certain segment of AEW fans that see Stardom as "us" and Marigold as "Fed", which equals "bad". They felt that Mayu betrayed their side by leaving Stardom, even though that was always in the cards since Mayu has done just about everything there was to be done in Stardom and is a Rossy loyalist due to the fact that the man put a roof over her head after she ran away from home and pretty much made her what she is today.
Mayu was never going to live in and wrestle in America. It just doesn't suit who she is - she likes her cozy apartment and her dogs and having a simple life. Since Stardom is the "big leagues" back home, and since she was already at the top, that obviously didn't suit her anymore either. So she went a different route - in Marigold she can help build and shape a new company from the ground up while helping shape young talents as well. It's more of a "fulfilling" thing than a money thing.
