He needed to be an underdog who got bullied and beat down, and that's actually what AEW did with him for a few episodes and it was good, but then they tried to elevate him way too fast and let him embarrass himself in that match with Sammy. Andretti needed to keep being that beaten down underdog for a long fucking time before being elevated. I'm talking months or maybe even a year. But Tony rushed it because he doesn't have the attention span for long term storytelling and he doesn't understand how to build up talented young prospects. Andretti still has unlimited potential but he'll never rise to it in AEW.
