Nutshell might be the saddest song I've ever heard, but in a way that is still moving musically and through what the lyrics express.
Dirt is such a strong album and probably their best work. I saved 9/13 songs on it, so only a fourth of the album sounded like filler to me.
Alice In Chains are just masters of depressing, sad, or melancholy songs, however you want to describe it. They still have plenty of head bangers too but I associate their best work with the songs that make me feel despair.
Their 3 albums post Layne are good too and have some standout tracks, but they will always be known more for their work with Layne and for good reason.
