Muto's retirement particularly hurts for me because I think his unique brand of genius is really lacking in today's wrestlers.
He wasn't the greatest in-ring performer of all time. He could be sloppy. But he was like a font of creativity or something, and had dynamic movement patterns that were unique and really stood out.
My favorite things about Muto are those little jitters he does when he does the space rolling elbow or a shining wizard, or even that basement dropkick. There's just something about the way he moves that is different and stands out. Muto does so many cool little details that really puts him over as a character, both as himself and as Muta.
I wonder why more wrestlers don't try to find unique mannerisms. I can't really think of anyone else that really understands that in wrestling these days other than Nakamura, and he didn't really get it until late in his career either.
