>>5015636It is somewhat irrational. I remember reading the Backblaze shitstorm and it somehow convinced people that if they even got near the brand it would instantly fail whenever you go to bed. My rig has two seagates and two western digital, no problems between any of them (which means I'm a strong outlier) and they have all been running for between 4 and 12 years each. Unfortunately with the state of hardware nothing is cheap or becoming cheaper any time soon.
