For better or for worse, Nyx' escapades have elevated the scale of the belt. A 4-way is just too risky. Same way having Ash go for her right away could've been risky, since an Ash win, right away, would've essentially rendered all the dojo trashing for nothing. Establishing demon powers and witch terrorism is something that gives the single match progression a need to build towards.
If we go with the 1v1 format, everyone involved has a safer route forward.
