Now factor in that AEW is a distant, distant second behind WWE and the ad rates must be extra terrible. It's also bleeding viewers like crazy. So it's a very low value property. WBD has more to gain from cancelling AEW and saving about 80 milly per year than it does from keeping AEW. Basically this was an unwinnable situation - WBD re-signs the NBA and they cancel AEW to save money, or they lose the NBA and cancel AEW to save money. There was no scenario where AEW wouldn't get cancelled.
