>>9788439If I remember correctly he almost disappears after losing the title, goes to WCW or something later on and then comes back and he is shaved fully bald with just a totally different body composition? Doesn't look the same, doesn't talk with the same confidence, a weird material arts gimmick for an old man built like a whiskey barrel on HGH. Seems like a waste of a career that was about to peak alongside of his buddy Arnold. Not only that, I think he would've done better in Hollywood than Hogan did. Could talk without relying on a cartoon character type of gimmick. We really missed out on the second half of his career because the booking was so stupid and nobody was around to question it that he was left to be depressed alone about it.
>>9788502I think it's something you can Google and get a proper answer on but if I am remembering it right another promoter (not sure on that) told Vince Sr. that Backlund was an absolute shitter and he couldn't get him over as the top guy no matter what, was pushing for an NWA guy instead, believe it was Eddie Graham. Vince stuck with Backlund for so long that he had to stack the card to draw houses when he could've had Hulkamania running wild 5 years sooner when he was alive to see it. Cornette talks about him if you can stomach the listen, around 2:45 or so.
>https://youtu.be/_ZanGKFxTkk>>9788555Probably true, but the story works either way because he stuck with Backlund like he was his own son.
